Senior cricket – Unicomb bowls eight out

VALLEY played Creeks at Howe Park in first grade this weekend. Creeks won the toss and elected to bat.

M Cook (41) and W Gillespie (38) lead the team to a competitive score of 157 as B Nichols 5/55 off 19.5 overs bowled exceptionally well. In the run chase B Lapham (42) posted a good score followed by J Carey (24) but the team only managed 98 handing Creeks the win. M Unicomb destroyed the opposition taking 8/26 off 14.5 overs.

In the other first grade match at Cook three JPC played Glendon. JPC won the toss and went out to bat. N Levy (44) and A Borg (54) placed impressive scores and got their team to 238.

G Thrift 4/56 off 15 overs bowled extremely well followed strongly by his teammate A Bailey 3/34 off nine overs.

Glendon batted well in the chase as H Morrow (45) and C Smith (28) got the team to a total of 9/143 which the lead the match to be drawn. L Charnock bowled very well taking 5/37 off 12 overs.

Cook two hosted second grade as JPC played Glendon. JPC won the toss and sent Glendon in to bat. G Danks (40) and M Nott (44) were instrumental in the team’s final total of 6/182. D Thrift 2/32 off eight overs was the pick of the bowlers for JPC. M Willis (39) and D Nelson (34) posted a competitive attempt to win but their team only managed 173 handing Glendon the win. T Gore 3/33 off eight overs and B Partridge 2/30 off eight overs both bowled extremely well for their team.

Creeks played Valley in the other second grade match at Cook four.

Valley was sent in to bat by Creeks and made the most of it as D Storey (74) and J Masmussen (39), not out, made 8/247 and placed their team in a very competitive position.

D Tracey 5/28 off eight overs was instrumental in the wicket taking for Creeks. N Upward (24) and J Cornelius (15) were the only scorers for Creeks as Valley bowled them out for 62. L Storey 4/24 off eight overs and J Rasmussen ¾ off one over were the damaging forces in Valley’s bowling attack.

PCH played Glendon at Cook one in third grade. PCH won the toss and elected to bat. They were bowled out for 74, A Moss (14), not out, and S Matthews (12) were the top scorers.

M Kelly 3/12 off 4 overs was the best bowler for Glendon followed strongly by A Maher and S Burley who both took two wickets. M Carrol (39), not out, and S Burley (34) won the match for Glendon as they made 3/80.

B. Paech 2/26 off seven overs the best bowler for PCH.

Valley Gold played JPC at Civic Park also in third grade. JPC won the toss and sent Valley into the field. C Knox (16) and C. Hargreaves (12) were the scorers for JPC as they were bowled out for 69. A. Sheen 3/18 off 8 overs bowled well as well as T Howard, S Howard and J Kolatchew who all took two wickets. W Nieuwenhouse (43), not out, and J Barry (15) lead Valley to the win as they made 1/76. T Muir was the best bowler for JPC taking 1/6 off three overs.

Valley Brown played Creeks at Cook five in third grade.

Valley Brown posted an incredible total when they batted first of 4/380. T Lane belted 177 without losing his wicket followed strongly by both B Maher (74) and E Mosely (52), not out.

J Prowse 2/58 off eight overs bowled well against a terrific batting performance.

A Trent (141) also posted an incredible score in the run chase followed by T. Morrissey (36) but they only managed 227. M Duffie 2/36 off four overs the pick of the bowlers for Valley Brown.
