Resuscitation cot for Singleton Hospital

SINGLETON Hospital will receive one of three resuscitation cots announced for the Hunter by the State Government yesterday.Member for Upper Hunter George Souris said the cot, valued at $22,500, will provide vital care to newborn babies.Mr Souris accompanied Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Member for Maitland Robyn Parker on a visit to Maitland Hospital yesterday to unveil two new resuscitations cots of the same value – one to be stationed in the maternity ward and one in the special care nursery.“The arrival of this state-of-the-art resuscitation cot at Singleton Hospital is a great day for our community,” Mr Souris said.“It is a much needed piece of life-saving equipment which will allow the skilled and hardworking staff of Singleton Hospital to deliver an even higher standard of care to newborns babies in their most vulnerable moments.”Late last year, Mrs Skinner funded Humpty Dumpty Foundation’s purchase of the three resuscitation cots, as well as other cots and lifesaving equipment for hospitals around the state.The cot assists babies who experience complications and stop breathing.It has an inbuilt oxygen outlet for immediate access to resuscitate a baby.A pulse oximeter monitors oxygen delivery to the baby.The cot also provides a warm environment, which reduces stress to the baby.Minister Skinner said: “I have no doubt the addition of three resuscitation cots to Singleton Hospital and Maitland Hospital will save the lives of our smallest patients and bring great comfort to parents at a very stressful time in their lives.”The announcement was made before the state parliament cabinet meeting in Maitland yesterday.
