They are ably supported by a few equally dedicated and tenacious consultants, together with a host of nurses and other support staff.
Our lives rest in the hands of people who work insufferably long hours, who are virtually on call for days at a time, whose faces are unknown to their families because of the hours spent at their posts rather than at home and who can become tired and make a slip due to exhaustion.
The issue of overworked, exhausted Emergency Department staff is one that should command the government’s prompt attention and action.
